A Simple Argument For A Good Holistic Health Model

English: Holistic health, body, mind, heart, soul

I work with people to develop practical ways of understanding and using holistic approaches to health & healing in their daily life. I do this through consulting, coaching and somatic therapy.

Why is this important?

1. Our Western healthcare system is deficient, inefficient and expensive… at its worst it ends harming rather than healing.¹ But clearly, Western approaches to medicine are potent and powerful; Western medicine has saved millions of lives. So the issue is complex and confusing.

2. When Western medicine doesn’t work for us, we often turn to alternative medicine. But alternative approaches can be just as confusing and complex. And frankly while many of us sense that holistic approaches to health are important — too often we don’t really have a good understanding what holistic means. Body, mind and spirit clearly relate to and affect our holistic healing process, but how do we leverage them in our daily lives?

When we don’t have a good understanding of the holistic healing paradigm, too often we use alternative techniques in the very same way we use techniques in the Western medical model. The result is that we have a “the more things change the more they stay the same” situation and we miss the deeper potency in a truly holistic approach to health.

3. It is critical that each of us have a good holistic map or model… one that helps us to understand both Western and alternative approaches; one that helps us to negotiate the complexity of health and healthcare in a way that helps to make empowered choices.

4. When we have a good holistic map we can better support our healing process, we begin to understand that we can always heal, no matter what our circumstances or health challenges might be—and in our process of healing and becoming whole we begin to understand that we can also heal the world around us.

If you’re healthy, you are happy… if you are healthy and happy you can create and experience the life you want. Develop a good understanding of your holistic healing system, and cultivate health and happiness!
